Well, well, well.....the only word I can use to describe Pyramid lake in Nevada, is un-freakin-believable! When I think of Cutthroat trout, I think of wimpy fish. Well, Lahontan fish are a different breed, almost like trout on steroids! We started our trip on March 22nd at 2:00pm and we were into fish immediately! Our rig of choice was a 9ft, 3X leader, with a red Copper John as the point fly, and a chironomid as the dropper! When you had a hit, it was not a subtle tap tap, it was like a jolt of electricity shooting up your arm, no doubt about it. There were 4 in our group with another gentlemen that met up with us for a day and a half. The first day we landed a ton of fish, and as quickly as it started, it shut down. The following day the fishing was off. We landed maybe 10 fish all day, but all nice fish. The 3rd day started out slowly with an east wind that the fish did not like, in the afternoon the wind switched into our faces and got the fish active again. We had several quadruples and many triples and doubles, idiot fishing at it's finest. The last day started out crazy, my buddy Tim and I had 9 doubles in the first couple of hours. Rick had taken off the previous evening and Aaron was back at the hotel sick as a dog. Aaron came out around noon, landed a dozen fish or so and went back and snoozed in the truck. The largest fish of the trip was a beautiful male that was estimated between 10-12lbs. We had tons of fish between 5-8lbs, with a normal fish going 23-24" long and 3-4lbs. These fish have serious attitudes and have no giveup in them, whatsoever. Fishing from a ladder is a new thing for us, but I can see why it is necessary after 4 days of fishing. We are already booked for 2009 and I have a feeling our group will include some newcomers once they see some pictures from the trip.

Camp Lahootie '09, here we come!
